Does chronic pain affect blog posts?

Hydrocephalus is very complicated and there is no quick fix when you start to have problems! Last April I started experiencing chronic migraines so I went to the doctor to see what was causing them. (If you are not familiar with this condition please visit my headache post for more information) After having several tests run they discovered my shunt tubing had broken off and that was what was probably what was giving me migraines! After having that repaired I noticed that my migraines had gotten better but I still was experiencing pain that I don’t usually experience! Writing blogs can be difficult when you experience chronic pain on a daily basis so here are a few tips on how you can get stuff done!

Only write on good days-  Blog posts should never be forced and if you are in excruciating pain they will be! You will be writing not because you enjoy the journey but because you want to get it over with so never write when you are in excruciating pain! Your blog will not be as good and your readers can see right through that so take the day or the week off until you are feeling better.

Physical exercise doesn’t necessarily help- “You should exercise more you will feel better.” Exercise doesn’t necessarily help but sometimes makes it worse if I am having a bad day. I can’t exercise as much as I would like because of my chronic pain so suggesting that I exercise more is not helpful advice. I understand you are trying to be helpful but instead of telling me to exercise more ask me if there is anything you can do to help!

Nothing is enjoyable– Activities that I used to enjoy such as playing the PlayStation 4 cause me pain so I lost interest in doing them. Every activity that I used to enjoy I cannot do anymore because it causes me pain but instead of getting depressed and feeling sorry for myself I find new activities that I can enjoy. When you have chronic pain there will be some activities you may have to give up because of your pain but feeling sorry for yourself and wishing your life was different will not help or change anything. There are plenty of other activities you can do that won’t cause you pain experiment with new activities.

Take Tylenol/Ibuprofen – “Take Tylenol when you’re in pain you’ll feel so much better! It really annoys me when people tell me to take Tylenol when I am in pain because it doesn’t touch my pain, unfortunately.  I understand that you are trying to help but the only thing that provides any sort of relief is rest, not Tylenol!

No energy?-  Some of my blogs are better than others and that is because most days I have no energy and all the coffee in the world will not help! My chronic pain does not end at migraines but also affects my entire body! My entire body is sore all the time so it makes it very difficult for me to get motivated to get up and do something productive! Whenever I start moving I feel like I just worked out for three hours even if I didn’t or haven’t in several days!  The nutrients that are in our foods help boost your energy levels and without them, you would feel very sluggish. Finding ways to boost your energy is hard enough with chronic pain don’t make it harder by not having a balanced diet!

Reward yourself- When you have chronic pain getting stuff done can be difficult because it can be hard to find the motivation to want to get stuff done. If you are having trouble motivating yourself to get stuff done reward yourself once you have gotten something done! Even if it’s just a small thing those things can add up and make it easier for you to get motivated to tackle a larger task next time!

There is still so much doctors don’t know about the brain although I did have what the doctors thought was causing my migraines repaired they still didn’t go away! Finding the right treatment for my migraines can be difficult so that is why I never lose hope! Migraines can be difficult to treat and sometimes it takes time before they find an effective treatment that works best for you.   1. It is a distraction because I can focus on something other than the pain. Focus, concentration, and memory are impaired. So it is difficult. Which is why it takes me time to write a post. I do write early in the day though, so that infernal vertigo isn’t bad yet.

  2. If I am having low to moderate pain levels it is a distraction if not I can’t concentrate. I usually write in low to moderate pain because I too am always in pain! Posts sometimes take longer than I would like but I do whatever works you can’t do anything more!

  3. Writing is a pain distraction for me, so I will write in pain… well I am always in pain. So to clarify I will write in Moderate pain! lol When it is severe my brain is all pudding brain. Just a mass of goo. But, writing in pain, especially migraine pain… makes for weird errors. Typos. Rambling. So it takes me a few days to do a post, so that I can in lower pain actually have something that makes any sense at all.

  4. Agreed, the moment you feel like it’s something you have to do is when you are more likely to reach a burnout! Blogging is supposed to be fun not something you are forcing yourself to do because that sucks the fun out of it:)
