Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest are all social media platforms that can distract us when we need to get stuff done. How can we get stuff done and focus? Here are a few things you can do when social media is a distraction.
Go out- When you work in bed in may be difficult to get motivated to get stuff done so in order to change that you may have to move to a place that is a little less comfortable. It could be as simple as getting a new desk chair or going to a Starbucks or Panera. Everyone is different do whatever works for you!
Block access or limit use on certain websites– Sometimes we are unaware of how long we are actually on social media. Unless you have really good self-discipline you are usually on social media longer than you think. If you can only afford an hour of your time on social media set a timer so you don’t over do it and waste the whole day doing things that aren’t productive. Some people have more difficult time staying off of those social media sites than others so if setting a timer doesn’t work for you block the access to those sites so you can’t get on them.
Silence your cell phones- What are your priorities? Is it updating a new selfie for your Instagram or knocking a few things off of your to-do list! When I workout I turn off my cell phone so I am not constantly checking messages when I should be working out. In reality, messages can wait unless you are waiting for an important phone call there is no reason you can’t shut your phone off for an hour or two. You will be amazed at how much you can get done without those distractions!
Clean workspace- How much time have you wasted cleaning your workspace? Whether you realize it or not a messy workspace is distracting and may affect your ability to get stuff done. Always have a clean workspace so you are able to get stuff done without any distractions.
Just do it- Sometimes despite what your mind is telling you, you just have to do it. In most cases, the hard part is getting motivated to get started but after you have started the rest is pretty easy. Stop making excuses and just do it!
Ask for help- Nowadays with the Internet, there are so many ways to distract us from all the productive tasks that need to get done. If staying focused is a challenge why not ask someone to help you stay accountable.
I am recovering from a three-day migraine so yes focusing can sometimes be difficult for me too. If you are having trouble focusing because of a migraine or something pain related the answer may not be to push through but to rest.
