When you have a gigantic to-do list and a limited amount of time to get everything done often times it can make you feel overwhelmed! Am I stressing for no reason and will I get everything done? If all your doing is talking about your gigantic to-list then no you won’t get it all done because tasks don’t complete themselves. You have to do take action and learn to prioritize your tasks so you can get more stuff done and feel less overwhelmed. We all have those days when we feel overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done but stressing over it will not make your to-do list any smaller. Today I am going to talk about what you can do if you have a gigantic to-list and are feeling overwhelmed about it.
Prioritize your important tasks- Everyone has tasks that need to be done right now and some that can wait a day or two! Prioritize the tasks that are time-sensitive and need to be done right now and do them first. Don’t wait until the last possible second because that will make you feel overwhelmed and stressed. You will be so worried that everything won’t get done in time, that you won’t be thinking clearly. It never killed anyone to get a few tasks done early because it will help you tackle more stuff off your to-do list so you have time for things that are a little bit more enjoyable.
Write it down- When you are feeling overwhelmed it’s not unusual for you to forget a few things! Your mind is in a different place because all you can think about is how am I going to get this done? Your to-do list isn’t going to get any smaller by avoiding these tasks but will only grow. Write down your list so you don’t forget anything because although you can ignore your problems all day long you will eventually have to face them. When that happens you are going to be really mad at yourself because you will wonder why didn’t I do this earlier?
Do a little each day- Most people don’t have time to do hours and hours of chores each day! We all have lives and there are so many other things we would much rather be doing than household chores but if you always putting off your to-do list you may have no choice! Do a little each day so your list doesn’t get overwhelming and you’ll have more time for yourself. When you tackle a little each day you will be able to afford to skip a day or two without doing chores because you kept up with your list but if you didn’t keep up with you may not be able to do that. Your list will be too long and putting it off, even more, will only make the list longer!
Practice self-care– Are you stressed by something that has been going on in your life? If you are super stressed it’s not going to motivate you to want to tackle something off your to-do list. Do something relaxing that will lower your stress levels like get a massage or go see your favorite movie. When you are ready you can come back to it because your list will always be there.
Don’t forget about the small tasks- Small tasks that aren’t time-sensitive often times get put on the backburner so our to-do list builds up! Don’t forget about these small tasks because although they may not have a time limit on them they are still important and should have as much of a priority as the larger tasks do. Tackle a few small tasks and see how much smaller your to-do list gets because you may be surprised with how much smaller your to-do list gets and how fast you can get them done! Small tasks don’t generally take as long and completing them will make you feel so much less stressed.
When our to-do list gets a little longer than you had anticipated it can make you feel overwhelmed and cause you to fill your mind with negative thoughts! Will, I ever get this done or will I just fail miserably? Yes, it is possible but freaking out about it won’t’ help and will only cause you to make rash decisions because you’re so worried that everything won’t get done in time. Focus on one task at a time and don’t try and do it all at once and you will get more stuff done than you realize! Stop telling yourself you are going to do it tomorrow because often times tomorrow turns into next month, next year or never. Do it now because chances are what you are putting off is not that hard but just time-consuming! Your list will only get bigger by not doing these unwanted tasks because sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do! Just do it because before you know it you’ll be done.
